Tall, vivid, and commanding, Qinhuai Fishing carries the drama of a red banner lifted high above the water—a lotus that refuses to be hidden among the leaves.

Qinhuai Fishing is a strikingly tall lotus with a commanding presence. Its defining feature is the way the brilliant red flower rises clearly above the surrounding leaves, giving the bloom an almost regal, elevated appearance.

The petals are intensely saturated in scarlet and crimson-red, with subtle variations in tone that become especially beautiful along their fine veins. They are broad and strongly pointed, opening in a graceful star-like arrangement. Several upright inner petals reach high toward the sky, while the outer petals extend outward, creating a dramatic balance between height and breadth.

At the center, a luminous golden-yellow seedpod provides a brilliant contrast to the red petals. Encircling it is one of the flower's most distinctive characteristics: a dense ring of deep red to purplish-red tipped stamens. Their dark coloration creates a crisp, almost jewel-like border around the glowing golden center.

The tall stem is an important part of the flower's character. Qinhuai Fishing does not nestle among the foliage—it rises above it. The broad green leaves form a natural backdrop below the bloom, emphasizing its height and making the intensely red flower appear even more prominent.

How do I fertilize lotus? When do I begin to fertilize lotus?
Wait until the lotus plant has several floating leaves or begins to put up aerial leaves before adding fertilizer. Choose a good fertilizer such as Pondtabbs or Landon’s Aquatic Fertilizer and follow the instructions carefully. The amount of fertilizer to use is usually based on the size of the pot and the amount of soil in the pot. For example, most of the small tablets are added at a ratio of 1-2 tablets per gallon of soil in the pot. Once the lotus has started to grow vigorously tablets can be added every 2-3 weeks. Stop fertilizing in late summer to allow the lotus to use up all the fertilizer in the pot before going dormant. This encourages the lotus to form better rhizomes.
