Taicheng Jasper is an exceptionally impressive lotus, distinguished by its very tall stature and remarkably large flower. It has the presence of a true garden specimen—rising high above the foliage and presenting its bloom at eye level, where its size and color can be fully appreciated.

The flower opens into a broad, graceful star-like form, with large, elongated petals in luminous shades of rose pink, blush, and soft lavender. The petal bases glow with warm cream and golden tones, creating a beautiful transition toward the center. Stronger pink coloration along the petal edges gives the bloom definition without diminishing its softness.

At the heart is a striking golden-yellow seedpod, surrounded by a dense halo of fine golden stamens. The seedpod is especially prominent against the pale petals, almost resembling a polished golden ornament set into the flower.

What is most remarkable about Taicheng Jasper, however, is its scale. Held in the photograph, the bloom makes its extraordinary size immediately apparent. Combined with the very tall stem, it gives the lotus an elegant, elevated character—the flower seems to rise above the pond rather than simply float within it.

The name Taicheng Jasper also feels fitting for such a substantial flower. There is something gemstone-like about the combination of pink petals, golden center, and strong natural form. Tall, commanding, and beautifully proportioned, Taicheng Jasper is a lotus whose grandeur comes as much from its remarkable stature as from the beauty of its bloom.
Taicheng, China, is located on the banks of the Pearl River.

How do I fertilize lotus? When do I begin to fertilize lotus?
Wait until the lotus plant has several floating leaves or begins to put up aerial leaves before adding fertilizer. Choose a good fertilizer such as Pondtabbs or Landon’s Aquatic Fertilizer and follow the instructions carefully. The amount of fertilizer to use is usually based on the size of the pot and the amount of soil in the pot. For example, most of the small tablets are added at a ratio of 1-2 tablets per gallon of soil in the pot. Once the lotus has started to grow vigorously tablets can be added every 2-3 weeks. Stop fertilizing in late summer to allow the lotus to use up all the fertilizer in the pot before going dormant. This encourages the lotus to form better rhizomes.
